A joint offer comes from MSC and Lufthansa to take over a majority stake in the company.
The MSC group, already a leader in container shipping, and Lufthansa, which has already expressed its interest after the green light from Brussels, are thus likely to create a partnership with the Italian government for the control of Ita Airways, the continuing operator of Alitalia airline.
The two companies have expressed the wish that the Italian government maintains a minority stake, therefore it will still be involved in the company’s operations.
Now that the two companies have expressed their interest, other consortia may come forward. A board meeting to present ITA Airways strategic plan is scheduled for the end of the month.
